"You are not alone; you are not to blame; with help, you will be well"
- Postpartum Support International
The journey of motherhood often comes with unexpected challenges, shifts in identity, feelings of inadequacy. Many moms feel truly unprepared for the challenges they face in motherhood, and have minimal supports. When our parenting journey does not meet our expectations, we can sometimes be left feeling depressed, overwhelmed, hopeless, fearful, and ashamed. The perinatal period is one of the most common times to be newly diagnosed with anxiety and depression, with rates of perinatal anxiety and depression tripling since the pandemic. It is hard to identify on your own, as often postpartum depression/anxiety presents as feeling like you are failing, or worrying excessively about things that could go wrong. You do not have to deal with intrusive thoughts, mom rage, relationship conflict, parenting struggles, anxiety or depression alone. Prenatal/postpartum therapy can be your first step to being well.

So many mamas tell us that they wish they sought help sooner and didn't try to struggle through it by themselves. It's not realistic to "enjoy every minute," but you can be well to enjoy what's enjoyable about this season and not miss out on all of the beautiful parts.
Common concerns we help with:
- Feelings of failure

Asking for help is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family,
and is truly an act of courage. We will provide you with a safe place to talk about your concerns or any scary thoughts you are having, and help enhance your coping skills to deal with the challenges you are facing. Sometimes that means some trauma therapy to work through birth/postpartum trauma, etc., or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help challenge unhelpful thoughts, reduce painful emotions, and increase healthy coping. Read more about our different approaches to therapy in the treatment approaches tab.
Prenatal and Postpartum therapy is offered in Oakville and Georgetown. Virtual sessions are also available for anyone residing in Ontario. Julie, Nicol, and Stacey on our team have their own experience as moms and specialize in working with individuals in the pregnancy and postpartum season. Stacey is a certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C) with Postpartum Support International and works collaboratively with Julie and Nicol for individuals we see in this population.
